Gardner L. Broadbent, Jr.

June 28, 1937 to July 22, 2017

~~Forestport- Gardner L. Broadbent, Jr. 80, of Woodhull St., husband, of Donna, passed away suddenly at his residence on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Affectionately known as Gary, he was born at his family’s residence on Old Rt. 12 in Remsen, on June 28, 1937. He was raised near Remsen and graduated from Remsen Central School, with the Class of 1955. Thereafter, Gary served his country in the US Army, stateside and in Paris, until his honorable discharge in 1958. From then until 1961, Gary served in the US Army Reserves. 

For several years he operated a farm on Egypt Road, before the couple moved to their present home on Woodhull St in 1970. Mr. Broadbent was also employed at the Remsen Milk Plant and for the N.Y.S. Canal Department, Forestport. His last employment was as a truck driver for the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation, Alder Creek garage, retiring in 1994.

On September 21, 1968, Gary was united in marriage with Donna Groth, at St. Patrick’s Church, Forestport. Gary enjoyed mowing his lawn and enjoying the view of Blackriver and the Forestport Dam from their home. He also enjoyed attending summer services at the French Road Church, Steuben. And watching Yankee Baseball. 

In addition to his wife, Donna, Gary is survived by his children; daughter, Brenda Alfano, Greig; son, John E. Broadbent, Forestport; daughter, Jessica M. (Michael, Sr.) Berwick, Huntertown, IN; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Rodney (Margaret) Broadbent, Sr. He was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn McIntyre. 

Services will be private at the convenience of his family at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Olden Barneveld Cemetery, Town of Trenton. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Multiple Dystrophy Foundation, 3300 East Sunrise Dr. Tuscon, AZ 85718.
