NWS UPDATE: JEFFERSON & LEWIS COUNTIES: WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 A.M. EST WEDNESDAY

  • WHAT: Snow across the higher terrain. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches with most snow across the Tug Hill and western Adirondacks in eastern Lewis Country. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph will result in blowing and drifting snow. Minimal accumulating snow is expected across lower elevations. 

 

  • WHERE: The Eastern Lake Ontario Region.

 

  • WHEN: Until 1 A.M. EST Wednesday, January 10th.

 

  • IMPACTS: Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

 

  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Periods of snow will result in snow covered roads and limited visibilities over higher terrain. Slow down and use caution while driving.

State Police Update Car v. Motorcycle Accident in Ava

On August 1, 2024 at about 5:27 p.m., State Police responded to a vehicle
vs. motorcycle accident on State Route 26 in the town of Ava. Investigation
revealed Tyler L. Carnell, age 34, from Lee Center, NY was operating a 1997
Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and collided with a 2017 Hyundai Sonata operated
by Mary E. Peck, age 61, from Rome, NY.

 Initial investigation revealed, the vehicle and motorcycle were both
traveling north on State Route 26 when the operator of vehicle attempted to
make a left-hand turn into a driveway.

 The operator of the motorcycle attempted to overtake and pass the Hyundai
in the left-hand lane and collided with the vehicle making the left turn
into the driveway. Tyler L. Carnell was ejected from his motorcycle and
pronounced deceased at the scene.

 Mark E. Peck was transported to Rome Hospital for non-life-threatening
injuries. The investigation is continuing.
