Snowmobile Crash 2

Town of Inlet- Police investigators say unsafe speeds and icy trail conditions are the likely cause of Friday night’s fatal snowmobile accident in the town of Inlet.

According to a press release from the Town of Inlet Police, emergency crews were called out at around 8:20pm to the Browns Tract Road, about one half mile from the Uncas Road, toward Raquette Lake. Investigation revealed Thomas C. Hetherington, 46, of Middlesex, NY was traveling west on his 2004 Ski-Doo sled and reportedly failed to negotiate a curve. Police said Mr. Hetherington struck a tree as a result of failing to negotiate the curve.

According to authorities, the people in his riding group attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful doing so.

Raquette Lake Fire Department utilized their rescue-boggan and took Hetherington to the Uncas Road, where he was officially pronounced deceased by Hamilton County’s Coroner, Donald Townsend. Inlet Fire and Ambulance, Eagle Bay and Raquette Lake Fire Departments all provided assistance at the scene.
