LEWIS COUNTY- Authorities have identified a victim who perished in Friday afternoon’s apartment fire in Lowville, NY.

The Lowville Village Police released a statement late last night, indicating that Thomas C. Young was the victim of the fatal fire at 5413 Hemlock Drive. In addition, emergency officials said a dog was also lost in the blaze.

At just before 3:30 p.m., the Lowville Village Police and Lewis County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the address for an unknown problem, Emergency Management officials said. The responding officer reported heavy smoke coming from under the apartment door and requested the response of firefighters.

Lowville Fire Department arrived to the scene quickly and contained the flames to just one apartment. Mutual aid was received from Martinsburg, Castorland and New Bremen Fire Departments.

According to Lowville Police, the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Fire Prevention and Control assisted at the scene.
