ALBANY- New York has some very staggering unemployment numbers for the month of April.

The Labor Department reports nearly 22% of all private sector jobs within the state were lost amid the coronavirus pandemic. That’s just a hair over 1.7 million.

Lewis County lost nearly 14% of their jobs. The Utica-Rome area lost just over 17% and Jefferson County lost nearly 15.5%.

Last month, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate shot up from 4.1% to 14.5%, the Labor Department says. Officials say this is the largest monthly increase since records began being kept in the mid 1970’s.
