TOWN OF LYONSDALE- A group of hikers were rescued over the weekend after becoming lost in the town of Lyonsdale.

The New York State DEC reports their Ray Brook Dispatch Office received a call at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday night from a group of a half-dozen hikers who became disoriented and stranded in the darkness of night.

The group told authorities they had left a nearby camp to go walk along the Moose River.

Forest Ranger Luke Evans was given the task of locating and escorting the hikers back to civilization.

Officials said they were able to pin-point the group’s location, which was not too far from a nearby road.

At just before 11:30 p.m., Ranger Evans found the hikers and had them all back to the road at just after midnight.
