OHIO- Authorities found and busted an illegal camp in the town of Ohio, which led multiple offenses against two local hunters, according to the New York State DEC.
It was on Friday, November 13 where State Forest Rangers Hanno and McCartney found an illegal camp near a remote pond in the West Canada Lake Wilderness Area.
Authorities said they found multiple state land violations during their investigation, including over a dozen trees that were cut to build the camp, the DEC said.
Nearly a week after the camp was discovered, Rangers went back to the site and were able to apprehend two hunters from the Forestport area.
As authorities questioned the pair, it was learned that both subjects had cut 14 trees to build the camp, while also using a chainsaw in a wilderness area.
Furthermore, the pair was found in violation for storing personal property on state land, landing a plane on a prohibited body of water and other camping violations.
The New York State DEC did not provide any names in their press release. The pair received multiple appearance tickets.
