First draft New York district maps released by appointed expert: AP

The court-appointed expert tasked with designing brand-new district maps state wide has released the first drafts.

This update is according to the Associated Press. The developments go on to hint that this latest draft seems to favor Republicans over the Democrats, which is exactly what the majority party was accused of doing weeks ago when this squabble first surfaced.

The highest New York Court agreed that the Democrats gerrymandered the maps, which is why an appointed expert has been called in to pinch-hit.

The Associated Press says these drafts would help the GOP by establishing five districts that sway Republican and at-least another four where their party had grounds to compete.

New district maps are required each year as part of the re-districting process.

The June Primary Election for Governor, other statewide positions and local races is still on for June 28. However, voters will have to visit the polls again in late August for congressional and state senate races.
