TOWN OF NEW BREMEN- On Wednesday, July 8th, Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Lewis County Drug Task Force, Metro Jefferson Drug Task Force, New York State Parole, New York State Police, and U.S. Marshalls arrested Benji Reed of Watertown after a vehicle stop on the Kirschnersville Road in the Town of New Bremen.
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Watertown Police that Reed was wanted by New York State Parole and was a suspect in a shooting that occurred in the City of Watertown almost a year ago.
During the investigation, Reed’s vehicle was spotted at a residence on the Soft Maple Road in the Town of New Bremen.
Reed left that residence and was stopped by patrols on Kirschnerville Road and was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle Reed was operating was conducted and deputies located a loaded 9mm handgun in a handbag on the back seat floor board.
Also located in the front passenger side was a set of digital scales, packaging and a small quantity of individually packaged cocaine.
Reed was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a Class C felony.
A passenger in the Vehicle, Amy L. Deem of Croghan was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a Class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree, a Class B felony, and two counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree a Class A misdemeanor for possessing scales and packaging.
