CASTORLAND - Edward C. Lautenschlager, 70, of Climax Street, a life-long resident of Castorland, died Saturday evening, April 11, 2015, at his home under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Castorland Union Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Lowville VFW immediately following the graveside service. Calling hours will be from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the funeral home.

Edward was born on January 27, 1945 in Carthage, a son of the late Gerald F. and Katherine Empey Lautenschlager. He graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School in 1964, then serving in the four years in the U.S. Navy, until his honorable discharge in 1968. On August 28, 1971, he married Margaret “Peg” McVoy at Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Ed worked at Climax Manufacturing in Castorland, and later in Lowville, for 42 years, where he retired in 2007.

Ed was a member of Lowville American Legion Post #162. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends, and enjoyed Syracuse Orangemen games. He lived for his family, especially his wife, Punkin, and enjoyed small repair projects.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Peggy; his two daughters, Michelle Wilder of Lowville; Marcy and Jeff Ward of Lowville; three grandchildren, James Wilder, Ashley Ward and Paige Ward; five sisters and two brothers, Shirley Lautenschlager of Carthage; Gerald “Leslie” and Wanetta Lautenschlager of Utah; Mary Ellen Lanoue of Texas; Martha and James MacPherson of South Carolina; Mark Lautenschlager and his wife, Michelle Bridge of Gouverneur; Bernice and John Clifford of Texas; Louise Keefer of Lowville; a sister-in-law, Madeline Lautenschlager; and a large extended family of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by both his parents, and a brother, Walter Frederick Lautenschlager.
