Boonville- Mark Edward Shoemaker, 69, of Main Street, passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2017.

He was born on March 8, 1948 in Herkimer, NY, a son of Edwin R. and Marie Barker Shoemaker. His family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he graduated from high school. Mark went on to college and graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautics University and became a licensed helicopter and fixed wing pilot as well as a commercial pilot. He entered the US Army on March 19, 1969 serving during Vietnam and was honorable discharged on May 13, 1971. For many years Mark was N.Y.S. hunting and game guide. Prior to moving to Boonville several years ago, he was a resident of Otter Lake, NY. Mark was very active in the Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W., Boonville and held numerous positions. He served as commander, senior/junior vice commander and quarter master. He was a member of the Military Order of the Coodies of America and held several positions, commander squirrel, senior vice blanket bum, junior vice high gimlet, quarter master and custodian of the crumby duffle bag. He served as grand commander of New York State Adirondack Council, New York State P.O.W/M.I.A. and was an instructor/coordinator for officer training school.

In District 4 of the V.F.W. he held positions as commander, jr./sr. vice commander and quartet master. Mark also was a member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot Association. He was very active in the Vietnam Get Together every year at the V.F.W. in Boonville and Mexico, NY. Mark was the “go to guy” and if he didn’t know the answer he would find the answer.

Surviving are a sister, Daryl Ann Frey, Greer, South Carolina; brothers, Jon Shoemaker, Orlando, Florida, Eric Shoemaker, California and Kristopher Shoemaker, Orlando, Florida and many many friends.

Military services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Boonville Cemetery with military rights rendered by the Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W. and Tun Tavern Leathernecks Marine Corp., all of Boonville. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post St., Boonville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O.Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250-0301 .
