LOWVILLE - Margaret N. Hanno, 80, died Saturday afternoon, December 23, 2017 at her home under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
Mrs. Hanno was born August 28, 1937 in Croghan, the daughter of the late John L. and Anna G. Nafziger Roggie. Margaret attended school at Beaver River Central School and received her GED from BOCES in Glenfield. She married Robert N. Hanno on March 16, 1959 in Chinchilla, PA, and had their marriage blessed on February 27, 1960 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She worked for Beaverite Products in Beaver Falls, and at Ft. Drum as a custodian and food service cook. Margaret then went to work for Lowville IGA. She and Bob made their home on Stowe Street. Robert died on February 1, 2003.
Margaret was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, and a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, quilting, in which she made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. Margaret like to read, play cards with family and friends, travel to North Carolina for Thanksgiving, and her highlight of the week was to prepare a Sunday meal for her family.
Surviving are her children, Andrew J. (Margaret) Hanno, Lowville; Dawn Marie (Dennis) Szalach, West Leyden; Eileen Grace (John) Faassen, Charlotte, NC; Mary Margaret (Daniel) Widrick, Castorland; her daughters-in-law, Patty A. Hanno, Glenfield; Pati Jo Hanno, Charlotte, NC; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; her brother John N. Roggie, Jr., Croghan; her sisters, Elizabeth (Raymond) Larkins, Lowville; Mary (Eugene) Kloster, Belfort; and a special niece, Joan Crouse, Lowville.
She is predeceased by her sons, John Norie Hanno and Donald Robert Hanno, a daughter-in-law, Tammy M. Hanno, her sisters, Pearl Roggie, Whilmina R. Fleming, Barbara N. Augustyn, Charlotte N. Crouse, Jean Paul, Anna Rubar, Lena Gadbaw.
Calling hours for family and friends will be on Friday, December 29th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 P.M., at the Sundquist F.H., where the V.F. W. Auxiliary will perform a service at 6:00 P.M.
Her funeral mass will be said on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Jay Seymour, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery. Following the funeral mass the family would like to invite everyone to a luncheon at the Lowville V.F.W.
