Port Leyden: Patricia J. Smith, 76 of 7320 East Main St. and formerly of Holmes Rd. died Saturday January 6th at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville with her loving family at her side.
She was born November 22, 1941, in Lowville, the daughter of Herbert and Julia Bruce Brown and was a graduate of Port Leyden Central School.
She was employed by the United States Postal Service for thirty nine years retiring as Postmaster in Port Leyden August 30, 2000. She started as a postal clerk in 1961 and was promoted to Postmaster in 1973.
She married James “Mickey” Smith June 3, 1961 in St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden. She was a charter member of the Port Leyden’s Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary where she was currently the treasurer. She bowled for over 50 years in Lyons Falls and Boonville. She enjoyed a yearly shopping trip with the girls to Lake George, traveling with Mickey and friends, bus trips, two trips to Hawaii, and a cruise to Alaska.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Scott and his fiancé Linda Bush-Thomas of Gansevoort, NY; Jeffrey and Wendy of Port Leyden, Brian and Cathy of Wilmington, NC; one daughter and son-in-law Joanna and Richard Gould, Jr. Of Whitehall. Also, six grandchildren, two great-grandsons, two step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter and one step-great-grandson. Also surviving are three brothers and four sisters-in-law Robert and Clara and James and Carolyn, all of Port Leyden; and Gary and Karen Brown of Lyons Falls and Bessie Brown of Lowville. She is predeceased by one brother, Wayne.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden with Deacon James Chaufty officiating.

Patty and her family want to thank her best friends and her many lady friends and the girls at the bowling alley who supported her during her cancer (chemo) treatments and her time at Sunset. Her family and Patty, also, wishes to thank the staff at Sunset for their loving care and support this past year. The Callaghan Funeral Home LLC of Port Leyden is entrusted with the arrangements.
