Robert E. Failing

Boonville-Robert E. Failing 87, a life- long resident of the area, passed away February 27, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on February 11, 1932 in the town of West Turin, a son of Olney F. and Julia Ruth Burke Failing. He grew up in Talcottville and attended Boonville High School. He was first employed as a logger with his father. On March 16, 1951 at the Boonville United Methodist church he married Cheri L. Houghton which was a loving union of “67 years with the right woman.” After their marriage, the couple lived on First Street in Boonville and then moved to Route 12D for eight years. They also lived on Woodgate Drive for many years before moving to their Sergeant Road home. Bob was employed with the Town of Boonville Highway Department for 17 years retiring in 2001. After he retired he stayed active driving dump truck for Rob Andrews and Ron Cyr and also transported cars for Carbone. He was a parishioner of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church; Bob served as a Boy Scout Leader for several years for Troop 13. He enjoyed woodworking; he built shelves for Mathews Place, loved jigsaw puzzles and dancing with his wife. Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Cheri; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Jennine Failing, Winston Salem, NC, Nicholas and Judy Failing, Raleigh, NC; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Blane Kaiding, Boonville and Robin Outtrim, Camden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Jean Houghton, Melbourne, FL, Richard and Jean Houghton, CA, Rita Merriam, Boonville, Margaret Failing, Boonville and Jenny Failing, Talcottville; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Nichole, Gwendolyn, Christine, Phillip, Robert, Bradley and Kylie and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Mark and Bradley Failing, a son-in-law, Wayne Outtrim and two brothers, Donald and Richard.

Bob’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Rita Merriam for all the loving care she has shown Bob and Cheri these past few years.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes services will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Mills Funeral Home, Boonville.
