Helen Jane Cyr

Sheldon, VT- Helen Jane Cyr, 84, formally of Boonville, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17, 2019 at her daughter Michele's home in Sheldon, VT. For many years Helen Jane and her husband Kenneth, resided on Park Ave. in Boonville.

 

Helen Jane was born in Lackawanna, NY on January 7, 1935, the daughter of George and Helen (Kalamas) Holmes. Helen Jane moved to Boonville from Port Leyden, NY when she was 7 years old, and graduated from Boonville Central School with the class of 1953. Her first employment was at the Franjo Theatre in Boonville, where she met her husband Kenneth. She married Kenneth Robert Cyr, “The Apple Man,” at the Boonville United Methodist Church on June 6, 1954.

 

For many years, Mrs. Cyr was employed as a legal secretary at many area businesses, such as Wagner Hickock Insurance Agency and RCA at Griffiss AFB. She also worked at Adirondack Central Middle School, BOCES, Lord Bec, and later in life was a daycare provider to many Boonville children. She and her husband Kenneth also spent many years running an apple business out of their home on Park Ave. in Boonville. This was an endeavor that they both loved dearly. Helen Jane was also a member of the Boonville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was an avid reader, loved spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and adored her four-legged friend Rascal.

 

Helen Jane is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Salam Majeed of Green Lane, PA and Michele and Bruce LaCross of Sheldon, VT, her grandchildren Heidi and Peter Barrett of Boonville, NY, Dr. Jawad Majeed of Chicago, IL, Bedhr Majeed of Green Lane, PA, Ashley LaCross and Dylan King of Saint Albans, VT, Jacob and Heidi LaCross of Swanton, VT, Chelsea and Josh Strong of Fairfield, VT, and Brianne and Matthew King of Saint Albans, VT. Her great-grandchildren include Liam Fullem (Barrett), Olivia King, Morgan King, Emmett LaCross, and Harper Strong, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alice and John Barlow of Burlington, VT. She also leaves a special son-in-law and wife Robert and Mary Beth Covey of Boonville, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband Kenneth of fifty three years in 2007, her parents, a brother Raymond, and a sister Betty Hunter.

 

Services will be held privately on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment to follow in Boonville Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville United Methodist Church, 105 Ann Street, Boonville, NY 13309.
