William {Bill} Daskiewich

Boonville-William {Bill} Daskiewich, 88 passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center on November 30, 2019.

He was born in Boonville on October 9, 1931 a son of William H. and Beulah Cole Daskiewich. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1949 and served in the U. S. Army from 1952-54. . He married Lois Perreault on August 20, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church, Utica. Bill then attended Oswego State College, graduating in 1958 and became an Industrial Arts teacher. His first teaching position was at Dolgeville, where he also taught Driver Education. He also taught in Van Hornesville for four years. The couple moved to Boonville in 1966, where he taught industrial arts at Strough Junior High, Rome. They built their home on Lewis Road and raised their family there, before building their home on Carol Place, Boonville in 1998. After his retirement from Rome City School District, Bill and Joe Pfeiffer built several homes in the Boonville area.

Bill was a member of St. Joseph’s/Christ our Hope Parish, Boonville Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight from 1969-76, Boonville Elks Lodge, Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W., Boonville, Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Boonville, Bill served as a Boonville Village Trustee from 2007-2011, he also served as Clerk of the Works for the construction of Kortenaer Village. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, bowling and fishing and would always lend a helping hand to people in need.

Surviving are his wife, Lois of 64 years; two daughters, Nanette and Thomas Podkowka, Boonville and Patti McCale (Buck Hiemstra), Camden; son, William Daskiewich, Boonville; nine grandchildren, Bree, Kari, Justine, Emma, Abby, Rory, Katherine, Amy and Julie; 11 great grandchildren, Wasyl, Waylon, Cole, Lydia, Lincoln, Brock, Brent, Maggie, Wesley, Sloane and Chase; sister, Joy Ann Miller, Utica; several nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Mills Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Christ Our Hope Church, Boonville with Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post Street, Boonville from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ Our Hope Memorial Fund.
