Gladys Mae Winters

Boonville – Gladys Mae Winters, 94, passed away on December 4, 2019 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Rome, NY on October 14, 1925 a daughter of John R. and Mabel Coleman Baker.

She grew up in Westernville and attended schools in Westernville and Holland Patent. On December 24, 1942 she was united in marriage with Albert Winters at the Episcopal Mance in Boonville. The couple lived in Forestport then Buck Hill Road in Westernville and then owned and operated a farm on Route 12 in Boonville from 1958-71, which is the current location of Nirvana Water. They lived on North Lake Road in Forestport from 1971 until moving to Kortenaer Village, Boonville in 2008. Gladys was employed at Marcy State Hospital for 18 years until her retirement in 1983. She entered Sunset Nursing Home in 2014. Gladys was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. #5538, the Oriental Rebecca Lodge #475, Rome, CSEA Employee Association and Forestport Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Winters, Wampsville, NY; son, Joseph and wife, Nancy, Mesquite, NV; four granddaughters, Karen Altrock, Denver, CO, Tracy Altrock, Los Almos, NM, Jessi Altrock, Boston, MA, Stacie Winters, Rochester, NY; sister, Shirley Watson, Rome and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 77 years, Albert, on September 7, 2019, a son, William, who was killed in Qui Nhon, South Vietnam in 1969, three brothers, Jack, Albert and Andrew Baker and nine sisters, Isabelle, Bertha, Marion, and Alice Baker, Grace Reed, Eleanor Wilson, Eula Edick, Jennie Frolich and Dorothy Reed.

There will be a graveside service at Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport in 2020, where both Albert and Gladys will be interred. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by Mills Funeral Home, Boonville. For an online message of sympathy please go to
