Cheri H. Failing

Boonville- Cheri H. Failing, 87, passed away on February 2, 2020 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she resided since 2015.

Cheri was born in Lowville on May 18, 1932 a daughter of Wayne Sr. and Henrietta Hughes Houghton.  Cheri came to Boonville from Forestport when she was in seventh grade and graduated from Boonville High School in 1950. She then worked at the Adirondack League Club as a cook and nanny. She married Robert E. Failing on March 16, 1951 at the Boonville United Methodist Church. After their marriage the couple lived on First Street in Boonville and then moved to Route 12D for eight years. They also lived on Woodgate Drive for ten years before moving to their Sargent Road Home.  Cheri was employed at various downtown Boonville stores, O’Donnell’s Bookstore, Sweeney Lumber, Lyons Falls, Hess Pharmacy and Erwin Library. She was a founding member of Matthew’s Place where she served as manager. She was a member of Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Boonville. Cheri enjoyed walking, dancing, reading, camping and going to school sporting events.

Cheri was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Robert, on February 27, 2019.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Jennine Failing, Winston Salem, NC, Nicholas and Judy Failing, Raleigh, NC; two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa and Blane Kaiding, Boonville and Robin Outtrim, Camden; nine grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Nichole, Gwendolyn, Christine, Phillip, Robert, Bradley and Kylie; eight great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Jean Houghton, Melbourne, FL and Richard and Jean Houghton, CA; one sister, Rita Merriam, Boonville;  two sisters-in-law, Margaret Failing, Boonville and Jenny Failing, Talcotville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Mark and Bradley Failing, son-in-law, Wayne Outtrim and two brothers-in-law, Donald and Richard Failing.

Cheri’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Rita Merriam for all of the loving endless care and devotion she has shown to Cheri.

A Memorial Service will be held in the spring and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Abundant Life Church, Boonville or to Friends of Erwin Park, 13149 State Route 12, Boonville, NY 13309. Mills Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
