Marie E. Staring


Annsville- Marie E. Staring, 75, of Yorkland Rd., passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the Abraham House, Rome, while surrounded by her loving family.


She was born on August 20, 1944 in Annsville, a daughter of Kenneth E. and Grace Waterman Howard, and was a 1962 graduate of Camden High School.  Marie was employed as a waitress and cook at Slims Restaurant, Boonville, and in later years at the Shooting Star Café, Taberg.  For a time she was also a cook at Stonehedge Nursing Home, Rome, and worked for the Cathedral Printing Co., Rome.  


On June 10, 1964, Marie was united in marriage with Wendall F. Staring.  Following their marriage the couple resided on the Pohl Rd., Ava, where they operated a dairy farm and sawmill business.  The couple later divorced.  Marie then settled in Taberg, where she has resided with her companion Charles Pope for many years.


She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and crocheting.  For several years Marie bowled in the Rome and Boonville woman’s leagues and more recently was a member of the Toccolana Club of Rome where she played bocce ball.  


She is survived by her children:  Kelly (George) Winegard, Deland, FL, Kathy (Ed) Young, Lakeland, FL, Sara Staring (Mike Rivette), West Leyden, and Benjamin (Crystal) Staring; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; her sister Maude Howard (Harry Trumble), Orwell, NY, and her companion Charles Pope.  She was predeceased by her infant daughter Diana Grace Staring, and siblings: Marion Dunn, Marilyn Howard, and Kenneth Howard.  


Services will be held privately for her family.  Interment will be in Ava Cemetery, Ava, NY.  Her funeral arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc, 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Abraham House 417 N. Washington St. Rome, New York 13440.
