Boonville- Domenic O. Cerro passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Utica NY on Monday March 10th 2014.
Dom was born in Boonville on February 15th, 1922, son of Pasquale and Rose Cerro. He graduated from Boonville High School in 1940 and later served in the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds MD. There he met and married his loving wife Jeanne Elizabeth Fretz of Oxford PA. The couple was married 68 years ago on March 9th 1946 and returned to Boonville where they had since resided.
Domenic is survived by Jeanne as well as his two devoted sons, Richard of Liverpool NY, his wife Robin, their children Matthew and Joanna and great grandson Dominic, and son Jeffrey and his wife Elizabeth of Yorktown VA. Also surviving Domenic is his brother-in-law Carl R. Fretz from Oxford PA, and sister-in-law Lucille Cerro of Boonville NY. Lucille's daughters Janice, Kathleen, and Patricia would always bring enjoyment to his days and added to his enjoyment of life in innumerable ways. Domenic was predeceased by his brother Armante with whom he shared a strong family bond.
Domenic loved living and working in Boonville and the surrounding area and enjoyed a life enriched by many dear friends and family. The family would also like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Sunset Nursing Home for all of their considerate and professional care over the last years of Dom's life.
A Prayer Service will be Saturday at 9:15 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 A.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where Rev. Sean Patrick O'Brien, pastor will officiate. A spring interment with military rites will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
