Forestport- Alice Mae Pierce, 79, a longtime resident of North River St., passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Utica.

Alice was born in Rome, on January 28, 1944, a daughter of Harvey J. and Winnie C. Wheeler Pierce. She lived in Remsen, as a child, moving to Forestport with her family in the early 1950’s. She graduated from Forestport High School with the Class of 1961. Miss Pierce began her nursing career as a Nurse’s Assistant, before earning her LPN degree in 1974. In 1988, she graduated from MVCC with an associate’s degree as a Registered Nurse. She retired from St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, in 2006, after a total of thirty-five years of employment, mainly on the medical/surgical floor.

She was a long time member of Forestport Presbyterian Church, where she served on the Session of the Church for many years. She was a member of Boonville TOPS Club. Alice had a special love of dogs, cats, and all animals.

She is survived by her brother, Robert E. Pierce (Maggie Honey), Forestport, one niece, Lisa Vaughn, Watertown, a nephew, Leon Vaughn, III, and his wife, Mary Ann, and their son, Leon, IV, all of Copenhagen, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Betty Pierce, and her aunt Marion Wheeler.

In keeping with Alice’s wishes, all services will be held privately. Interment will be in Woodgate Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St. Utica, NY 13501.
