Ava –Clarence (Pat) W. Malone, 85, of State Route 26, Ava, passed away on January 5, 2014 at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.
He was born on February 22, 1928 in Altoona, Pa. a son of Harry and Iva Walker Malone. At a young age the family moved to Little Falls where they operated a farm. He was an army veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He first worked at Burrows Paper Mill for several years and then at Pat’s Tires, Rome. Pat moved to Sebastian, Fla. where he worked as a mechanic at area marinas. On June 1, 1974 in Rosaland, Fla. he married Janette Backer. In 1976 the couple moved to Arizona where Pat was employed at Hughes Aircraft, Tucson, Az. as a chemist. He retired in1989 and the couple moved back to Ava. He was a member of Point Rock United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and visiting with his friends.
Surviving are his wife Janette; stepchildren, Paul and Debra Howard, Garland, TX, Jane Layva, Sierra Vista, Az.; two step grandchildren, Michael Layva and Keith Howard; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Stanley Backer, Warren and Marie Backer, Gill Backer and Ann Owens, all of Ava and Doris Spinella, Rome; special friends, Kevin Mathis, Jim Williams, Paula and John Burns and Coady. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Rome VA Clinic and the Sunset Nursing Home for the wonderful care shown to Pat.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post Street, Boonville. Calling hours will be Wednesday 2-4 p.m. prior to the service. Spring burial will be in Ava Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the West Leyden Fire Department Ambulance.
