LOWVILLE – Elwin D. Stanton, 92, of East Road Extension, Lowville, died Thursday evening, January 16, 2014 at Country Manor Nursing Home in Carthage.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville with Deacon Mr. Ronald Pominville and Deacon Mr. James Hankey, son-in-law of Mr. Stanton, co-officiating. Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be from 6 - 9 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville. Contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 5457 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY 13367.

Elwin was born on January 9, 1922, in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Roy and Mildred Dening Stanton. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1939. Elwin married Rosemary Kirschner on June 14, 1942. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Lowville. She passed away on August 9, 1961. On April 19, 1980, he married Sandra Rose Tiller. She passed away on April 22, 1999.

He is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Mrs. Douglas (Shirley) Pleskach of Lowville; Mrs. James (Dora) Hankey of Painted Post; Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Sheldon of Copenhagen; five sons and their spouses, James and Valerie Stanton of Carthage; John and Trudy Stanton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Thomas Stanton of Lowville; Peter and Marilyn Stanton of Edgewater, FL; Paul and Dahlia Stanton of Union, KY; five step-daughters, Katrina Zeglin; Anita Lyndaker; Rebecca Fralix, Amy Hotaling; Melinda Durant; a step-son, Louie Tiller; a brother and his wife, Lucian and Isabel Stanton; 21 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by two wives; a brother, Donald; two sisters, Velma Ranew and Lila Yousey; and by a step-son, Martin Tiller.

Mr. Stanton was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, country music, and telling stories.
