Barneveld/Remsen – J. Daniel Rock Hudon, 93 went to be with the Lord
while at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center on March 22, 2021. On this
day, we lost our family Patriarch, a devoted loving husband, father,
grandfather, uncle, and a mentor to many.
He was born on April 4, 1927 in Johnston VT a son of Oscar and Cora
Houle Hudon. Dan entered in the Merchant Marines during WWII serving
from 1945-46 and was very proud to serve his country. He began his
logging career with his father and three brothers in 1939 at Crown
Point, NY. He was united in marriage with Wilma Fumich on August 8, 1947
in Crown Point, NY. They would have celebrated 74 years of marriage this
year. In 1966, Dan and Wilma moved their small business from
Thendara/Old Forge to Barneveld NY. Dan loved his chainsaws, the
forestry business and the snowmobiling business. He was the founder of
Dan Hudon Sales, Inc., a small family owned business which has grown
into a nationwide company manufacturing and distributing forestry
equipment that many know today as Hud-Son Forest Equipment (Hudon and
Son) and Hudon’s Sled Salvage. Dan Sr. looked forward to attending
the NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days each year and seeing all his friends and
acquaintances, old and new alike.
Dan Sr loved working outside, whether gardening, tree work or running a
dozer. He loved clearing land and building roads. Technology did not
slow him down; at 93 he continued to be involved in promoting his
businesses and communicating with family and friends. Dan Sr. wanted to
thank all of his great customers, who have helped make his businesses
successful, all of which is a blessing to his family and community.
With much success Dan Sr. remained a humble man.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; children, Diane and Lee Crowther, Terry
Hudon, Dan and Jodi Hudon; brother, Omer and Rosemary Hudon; sister,
Martha Bolduc; six grandchildren; nine great grand children; four great
great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a
granddaughter, Danielle Hudon; brothers, Paul and Maurice Hudon and a
sister, Theresa Montagnola.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers
and a special thank you to the healthcare workers at St. Elizabeth’s
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles’ they shall run, and not be weary’ and
they walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
Per Dan’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held privately by his
family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by Ackley-Mills Funeral
