John David Ernst

Boonville-John David Ernst, 57, passed away on Tuesday, November 24,
after a courageous battle with cancer.

John, a Christmas surprise, was born on December 25, 1962 to David and
Joyce (Grower) Ernst at St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Utica, NY.

After graduating from Adirondack High School in 1981, John was first
employed at Foodland Markets and later Ethan Allen both of Boonville. To
later find his life long career as a Lineman for the Municipal
Commission of Boonville for over 30 years.

Growing up, John found his passion behind the throttle of a snowmobile
traveling throughout the United States and Canada competing from the age
of 14 years old as an Ice Oval racer.  As a junior driver John received
USSA Eastern Division Junior driver of the year. As a senior driver he
raced modified snowmobiles earning the number 3 bib for his success.
John later became owner/manager for Miracle Racing, which was one of the
largest snowmobile teams in the Eastern United States.

John was an avid mechanic who used his skills from repairing small
engines to building race cars that competed at Adirondack International
Speedway. He also enjoyed golf, American history, classic cars, and
playing cards with his many friends.

John was the friend and big brother you could call at anytime for
anything.

John is survived by his son Connor-who was his world, his father David
of Boonville, sister Lee Ann and husband Lyle Platt of Boonville, sister
Jan and husband Jody Martin of Marcy, and several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his mother Joyce in 2011.

A special thank you to Tim Ervay for being John’s caregiver during his
difficult battle with cancer. To give so selflessly is the reflection of
a true friend.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate John’s life at a memorial
service being held at the Boonville Baptist Church, Post Street
