Mona L. (Jones) Mooney

Port Leyden- Mona L. (Jones) Mooney, 80, of Fowlerville Road, wife of Richard A., passed away after a brief illness, while surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.

Mona was born in Lowville, on September 22, 1941, a daughter of Walter and Luella McBain Jones.  She grew up in the Town of Watson on the Number Four Road and received her education at Lowville Academy & Central School.  Later for over 30 years, Mrs. Mooney was employed as a certified nurse’s assistant at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.  

Mona was united in marriage with Richard A. Mooney at the home of her parents in Watson.  Thereafter the couple lived in Watson, before moving to Fowlerville Road, Town of Lyonsdale, many years ago.  

Mona was a self-taught accomplished musician; her specialty was playing the guitar and singing and she possessed the special talent of playing music by ear, along with reading music.  She greatly enjoyed playing guitar and singing with her father and brothers in their family band.  

In addition to her husband, Richard, Mona is survived by one daughter, Dawn Rushlow, Lyonsdale; two grandsons, Eric and Steve Rushlow, Springfield, MO; four brothers, Walter, Virgil (Karen), Merritt (Misty) and Tom (Ramona); one sister, Nancy (Richard) Rice, a half-sister, Edris Fox and several nieces and nephews.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation hours on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 2-4 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.  A graveside service will follow in the spring at a date and time to be announced in Pennysettlement Cemetery, Town of Lyonsdale.
