West Branch, NY: Paul J. Potter, Sr., passed away peacefully, at home, September 20, 2023.
Paul was born October 6, 1950, in Rome Hospital, to the late Alton Paul and Joan (Sczewczyk) Potter, and was raised in Canastota.
He graduated from Canastota High School, in 1968, where he was an outstanding pitcher on their baseball team. Paul loved fast cars!!
After graduation, Paul began his career in the construction industry, working with a number of different companies, building NY State roads and bridges. He operated heavy equipment, was a grade foremen, and everything in between! He retired as superintendent from Bayside Paving, of Rochester, in 2009.
Starting at a young age, Paul hunted rabbits and deer with his dad. He loved ice fishing at Oneida Lake for Walleye and Perch. Paul loved fast cars!! On November 29, 1985, he married Carol Koury of Utica. They were together thirty-eight years. Paul was of the Catholic faith.
Besides his wife, Paul is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Ana Potter of Austin, TX and P. Joseph and Rachelle Potter of Oneida Castle, NY; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Nancy Potter of Sugarhill, GA. He is also survived by his in-laws, Joan Koury of Washington, DC; Cyndi Koury of New Hartford; Mary Koury and Heather Haglund of Sauquoit; and Diana and Tom Levanti of New Hartford; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and his best friend, Ricky Sawyer of Philadelphia, NY.
Paul was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, George T. Sr. and Shemoney Koury; and his brother-in-law, Bill Koury. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Paul’s life, was held on October 5th, with his family and friends at the at The Matt Funeral Home, 700 Rutger St. at Mohawk St. Utica.
