Shawn Eric Gillette, 64, of Rome, formerly of Boonville passed away on December 28, 2022.
Shawn was born in Lowville Hospital, Lowville, NY on October 3, 1958. His parents were Erwin W. Gillette and Joyce A. Longway Gillette. Shawn grew up in Boonville and graduated from Adirondack Central School in 1976.
In his early years, Shawn worked as a talented busser and bartender - first at the Buffalo Head and later Garrmone's Restaurant, both in Forestport. From there, Shawn entered his primary career with the NY State Department of Corrections where he retired after 30 years in 2015.
Shawn was previously married to Kathleen Davan. He loved collecting guns and target shooting with his long-time friend Todd Hiemstra. Shawn enjoyed helping his neighbors and caring for his aging mother Joyce Gillette. He had a strong fondness for his nieces and nephews, riding his Harley Davidson and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with his friends.
Shawn is survived by his mother, Joyce Gillette, sister Eileen Wilbert, sister Faith Durden (Matthew), several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Erwin Gillette and brother- in-law Seth Wilbert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our Hope/St. Joseph's Church, 112 Charles St., Boonville at 11 am, January 7, 2023 with Rev. Matthew E. Rawson officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a gathering at the Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W. Boonville. Donations of food may be dropped off any time after 9:30 am.
