Tuesday, February 18th

  • OLD FORGE-The Old Forge Library offers several opportunities to meet New York State's Sexual Harassment Prevention requirements, with several scheduled trainings. All employers, employees and some non-profit board members across New York State must fulfill an annual sexual harassment prevention training requirement. Library trainings are held via Zoom and several sessions are scheduled to accommodate as many as possible. Sessions are scheduled for : Tuesday, February 18 at 10 am Tuesday, February 18 at 5 pm Thursday, February 20 at 10 am Thursday, March 6 at 6 pm. At completion, a certificate is signed for those who complete the training, verifying their attendance. Depending on the group size, training takes approximately one hour. Some participation is required from attendees, and those participating will take turns reading the training slides. The whole group will answer true and false questions together. The material will be familiar to previous attendees, as the presentation is based on state recommendations for organizations. Because it is a Power Point presentation, participants cannot join via phone, and must attend with video on to satisfy the participation requirements. This service is offered free of charge.   • LOWVILLE-Sugaring Storytime at Lewis County Historical Society on Tuesday, February 18th at 11 am. The children have a break from school, so come join us for a Sugaring Storytime at the Lewis County Historical Society. We will read stories about sugaring and syrup, discuss some historical parts of Lewis County sugaring, do some crafts, and enjoy some sweet treats. Sponsored by Lewis County Historical Society, Lowville Free Library, Good Ole' Wishys, and Snyders Sugar Shack.
  • HARRISVILLE-UP Coalition will be having a presentation at the Lewis County Office for the Aging Harrisville Dining Site on Tuesday, February 18th on Alcohol misuse in Lewis County.  
  • BOONVILLE-Summer Story Hour with Mrs. Hannah every Tuesday at 10am at the Erwin Library in Boonville. Every Tuesday Mrs. Hannah will read a specially picked story, have a fun craft, and delicious snack! Children of all ages can come enjoy the fun! Cost: FREE
  • LOWVILLE-Join the Lowville Free Library for a weekly storytime, every Tuesday morning at 11 am with books, songs, movement, and crafts! We start each morning with 10-15 minutes of playtime, then read together, do some movement and interactive fun, and finish up with another activity like a craft or game. 
  • BOONVILLE-Erwin Yarniacs Meet every Tuesday from 1-3pm at the Erwin Library in Boonville to work together on their knitting and crocheting projects. This group is for all levels, from beginner to advanced, and together will help you get the project done.

  • LOWVILLE-Wednesday, February 19th is Coloring Day at the Lowville Free Library.  There are kits and crafts available while supplies last, and a scavenger hunt in the children’s room all week.  
  • CROGHAN-Lewis County Office for the Aging Meal Site Presentation on Heart Health Month by Lewis County Public Health will be in Croghan on Wednesday, February 19th.

  • ROME-Please join the Center for Family Life and Recovery for their third ❄️𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙝❄️ - A family fun event just in time for mid-winter break! Families will enjoy a variety of activities, including crafts, giveaways, and live music. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with local agencies to learn about the various services available in the community. Held at the Kennedy Arena in Rome from 𝟭𝟭:𝟬𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝟯:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 with 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚 𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙨𝙠𝙖𝙩𝙚 ⛸️ from 𝟭:𝟬𝟬𝙥𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝟮:𝟯𝟬𝙥𝙢.   • BOONVILLE-Erwin Library is thrilled to announce our upcoming Book Tasting event on Thursday, February 20th, at 3 PM! What is Book Tasting? It’s an exciting opportunity to explore a variety of books across different genres throughout the evening. Attendees will find a seat at a table and select a book from the menu. They will read the synopsis and the first few pages, then move to another table to experience a different genre and repeat the process. At the conclusion of the event, participants will have the chance to “take home” a book, provided they possess a library card, which we can issue during the event.   • LEWIS COUNTY-Lewis County Office for the Aging offers a home delivered meal program where meals are delivered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with a frozen meal available for Tuesdays and Fridays providing 5 meals total throughout the week.  This program is for people 60+ who are more home bound and maybe unable to make healthy balanced meals for themselves. They also have Community dining sites where people 60+ that are more independent can gather and have lunch together Monday through Thursdays all of which serve around 11:30am-11:45am  Croghan- Steepleview courts.  Harrisville - Harris Courts. Lyons Falls - McManus Hotel  Copenhagen- Copenhagen United Church.  Lowville - Maple Ridge Center. These Programs are funded by Federal, State, and local sources. There is a suggested Contribution of 3.50 per meal. Cash, checks, and SNAP are accepted.
  • LOWVILLE-Medical Equipment loan program by the Lowville Lions.   The Lions Club is able to provide gently used medical equipment to members of the community.  Hospital beds, canes, walkers, bathroom supports, Hoyer lift, and more.  All of the equipment can be loaned at no cost.  Donations are also accepted to replenish their supply.  Contact This email address is being protected from spambots.   • LEWIS County-Friendly Calling & Visiting Program for older adults.  Do you know someone who could use a friendly call or visit throughout the week?  The Lewis County Office for the Aging has Volunteers for that.  Please give their office a call at 315-376-5313 with the name of someone who could use somebody for a visit or a check-in,  and they will be set up.  
  • LOWVILLE-The American Legion, the nation’s largest veteran’s organization, is seeking boys with outstanding qualifications in character and leadership to attend one of the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction designed for high school students. Boys State is a participatory program where each young man becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government.   “These young men are the future leaders of America,” said Lee Hinkleman, Commander of Lowville American Legion Post 162. High school juniors will be selected in February and March by the American Legion to attend the program, which will be held at SUNY at Morrisville. From June 28th through July 3, 2025.High School Juniors should contact their High School guidance counselors.  Outside groups who wish to support this should call 376-3712 or visit us on FB or at americanlegionfamily.org.  The training at The American Legion Boys State is objective and practical with city, County, and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus, and recreational programs.American Legion Boys State is conducted in 49 Departments of The American Legion. Hawaii does not conduct a program. As separate corporations, Boys States vary in content and method of procedure.   • LEYDEN and BOONVILLE-Spirit Animal Sanctuary, is having a Donation Drive during the entire month of February. They are accepting donations via check written to Spirit Animal Sanctuary, or donations to their account at Foothills Veterinary Clinic in Boonville, or pet supplies like dog treats, dog beds, cleaning supplies, and more.   • LOWVILLE-The Lowville Lions will be collecting pet food and pet supplies during the entire month of February for the Lewis County Humane Society. Please donate pet food, cleaning supplies, office supplies, toys, treats, etc. Drop off your donations at the State Farm office on Elm Street in Lowville inside the main door between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you have additional questions, please contact the Lowville Lions at 315-874-4101.
  • LOWVILLE-Each year, Lewis County Office for the Aging sponsors the Randy Streeter Older Adult of the Year Award. This award is named in honor of the founding director of Lewis County Office for the Aging, Randy Streeter, who held the position from 1974 to 1991. Randy served as a vocal advocate for all older adults with sincere and faithful dedication. This prestigious award recognizes an individual who, out of the goodness of their heart, gives their time and energy to the community through volunteering their services and has made a difference in Lewis County. We are now accepting nominations through Monday, March 3, 2025. Nomination Guidelines: 1. Must be a Lewis County resident, age 60 and over. 2. The nominee is someone who serves as an example. 3. The individual has contributed to the overall betterment of the community. 4. The nominee has consistently devoted a significant amount of volunteer time to community service through local organizations, groups or through their independent actions that impact the community or older adults. The recipient of this award will be recognized at this year’s “Healthy Aging Day” at the Lewis County Fair on Thursday, July 17, 2025. They will be presented with a certificate of recognition and have his/her name engraved on a plaque located in the Lewis County Office for the Aging. The awardee will also be recognized by the New York State Office for the Aging at Older New Yorkers Day on May 27, 2025 in Albany. If you know someone who is worthy of a nomination, please complete the nomination form and allow the nominating committee the opportunity to review and consider them for the award.   • OLD FORGE-The Old Forge Library will host the Community Poetry and Art Extravaganza Contest and Exhibit opening reception and ceremony will be held on Thursday, February 27 at 5:30 pm and is open to the public. Winners and honorees will be announced and awards presented. Those honored with awards will have an opportunity to read and/or discuss their work. All works of poetry and art received for the contest will be displayed at the library from February 27 – April 25.
  • LOWVILLE-The Lowville American Legion Auxiliary hosts a Friday Lenten Dinner from February 28th through April 11th.   Dinner includes a 10-12oz portion of fried or baked fish, salt potatoes, coleslaw, roll/butter, and dessert. Hours are 4:30-7:00 pm. The cost is only $14.00.
