Sunday, May 4th

  • Paulie Hance's Birthday Party Fundraiser is at the VFW in Boonville on Sunday, May 4th from 4-8pm.  There is a basket raffle, bake sale, and lots of donated food.  Come out and celebrate Paulie Hance and help him raise funds for his trip to Texas.  Paulie helps everyone else, let's give back!

 

Monday, May 5th

  • TURIN-The Village of Turin will have a scheduled waterline shut down on Monday 5-5-25 between the hours of 8:00 AM & 11:00 AM.  Affected users will be the southern portion of West Road & Gomer Hill.
  • GLENFIELD-The Glenfield United Methodist Women will be hosting a Cinco de Mayo Mexican food sale at the Glenfield firehall on Monday, May 5th from 11 AM to 2 PM. Line up includes chicken or beef tacos, rice, beans, street corn, chips & salsa, and of course all your favorite taco toppings! $10/plate. We can't wait to see you there!
  • CONSTABLEVILLE-Rabies Clinic sponsored by Lewis County Public Health and Countryside Veterinary Clinic for dogs, c ats, and ferrets 3 months of age or older.  Monday, May 5th from 7-8 PM at Constableville Fire Hall. A $15 donation per pet is suggested.  Please have all dogs on a leash and cats and ferrets in a carrier.  Please provide a record of previous vaccination. 
  • LEWIS COUNTY-The Office for the Aging, in collaboration with Double Play Community Center, will be holding Aquatics and Walk with Ease classes this Spring from April 7th through May 16th on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.. Aquatics will be at Lowville Academy from 7-7:45 am and Beaver River Central School from 7-8 am. Walk with Ease will be at Brookside Senior Living Community from 1:30-2:30 pm. Tuesday, May 6th

  • LYONS FALLS-The Lyons Falls Library, 3918 High Street, is celebrating Children’s Book Week Tuesday May 6 – Saturday, May 10, and we’d love for you to celebrate with us! Take home free kids’ coloring books and coloring pages all week!
  • LOWVILLE-Annual Mother’s Day Breakfast at Lowville VFW, 7744 West State St, Lowville on Sunday, May 11th. Seatings at 9, 10 and 11 am. Reservations required byTuesday,  May 6th. Call 315-376-2733 to reserve time and number in party. $15 adults $8 kids 6-12 5 and under free.
  • BOONVILLE-Summer Story Hour with Mrs. Hannah every Tuesday at 10am at the Erwin Library in Boonville. Every Tuesday Mrs. Hannah will read a specially picked story, have a fun craft, and delicious snack! Children of all ages can come enjoy the fun! Cost: FREE
  • LOWVILLE-Join the Lowville Free Library for a weekly storytime, every Tuesday morning at 11 am with books, songs, movement, and crafts! We start each morning with 10-15 minutes of playtime, then read together, do some movement and interactive fun, and finish up with another activity like a craft or game. 
  • BOONVILLE-Erwin Yarniacs Meet every Tuesday from 1-3pm at the Erwin Library in Boonville to work together on their knitting and crocheting projects. This group is for all levels, from beginner to advanced, and together will help you get the project done.
  • OLD FORGE-All are invited to "Walk and Talk" with friends and neighbors on a weekly basis, each Tuesday starting March 25th at 1:30 pm. The group will meet in the joint Old Forge Library and Niccolls Church parking lot at 220 Crosby Blvd. Niccolls Nurses conceived the idea as a way to provide both socialization and movement to those interested and the library wanted in on the action. The many benefits to be had by walking and talking include controlling blood pressure, lowering risk of chronic disease, maintaining healthy weight, fighting cancer, improving heart health, enhancing mental health, boosting mood, reducing stress, strengthening bones and being happier because you are socializing with fun people.  Walk and Talk Tuesdays will take place through May 27. There will be a  group leader on hand and  distance and pace will be adjusted to be comfortable for each walker.  

 

Wednesday, May 7th

  • LEWIS COUNTY-Lewis County Public Health will have a presentation on Mental Health at the Lewis County Office for the Aging Harrisville Meal site on Wednesday, May 7th.

  • PORT LEYDEN-Free Community Dinner at New Covenant Christian Community Church in Port Leyden on the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 6 PM and community prayer at 6:30 PM
  • OLD FORGE-The Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., has a new line up of free crafting projects for the ever-popular Wednesday Night Craft get-togethers! Craft nights start at 5 pm that continue for most Wednesdays through the spring. The schedule for crafting projects is: May 7: Jar Terrariums May 14: Fabric Strawberries May 21: Wine Cork Flags Library crafts offer a welcoming and relaxed environment without structured instruction. Open to all, family and senior-friendly, craft nights are a great way to join others for an evening out. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Thursday, May 8th 

  • OLD FORGE-The FREE Bagels & Blood Pressure program is starting back up on May 8 from 10:00 am to 12 Noon at the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps building on the corner of Spring Street and State Route 28 in Old Forge. All are welcome. This program is delivered to you courtesy of the Old Forge Library, LivingADK and Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance CORPS. Stop by and grab some food, get your blood pressure reading if you'd like, & some health info. A community get together. All are welcome to this free event, even just to stop by for some breakfast!

  • OLD FORGE-The Old Forge Library, located at 220 Crosby Blvd., will host an informative session on geothermal heating and cooling on Friday, May 9, at 3 pm, presented by NP Environmental. A short reception with snacks will follow the presentation to celebrate the Library's investment in a new geothermal heating and cooling system. Geothermal systems offer an energy-efficient, low-maintenance alternative to traditional heating and cooling. By harnessing the stable temperature of the earth, they significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and long-term utility costs. Attendees will learn how geothermal systems operate, explore sustainable energy solutions for homes and buildings, and gain insight into the Library’s own transition to a cleaner, more environmentally responsible energy source. This project has been in development for over a year and was made possible through grant funding from NYSDEC Adirondack Smart Growth, the Adirondack League Club Fund, the New York State Library Construction Program, and the Empire State Development Not-For-Profit Capital Grant Program. NP Environmental, based in Waterville, NY, is a respected HVAC and geothermal contractor specializing in sustainable heating and cooling solutions for residential, commercial, and municipal clients. Founded in 2004, the company is known for its expertise in heat pump technologies and energy-efficient systems. The event is free and open to all.   • PORT LEYDEN-Story Hour-every Friday 10-11 am at the Port Leyden Library following the South Lewis school calendar. Children are read to, make a craft, play games and take a snack home.
  • OLD FORGE-Spring Story Time will be held for five consecutive Fridays from April 18 to May 16, 10:15–11 am, at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd. Designed for children ages 3–6, Story Time is a fun, engaging experience led by a friendly and enthusiastic library staff. During these 45-minute sessions, children will enjoy a variety of activities, including storytelling, creative play, games, crafts, songs, and other interactive activities designed to inspire imagination and creative thinking. Story Time has been a cherished Old Forge Library tradition for many decades, providing a meaningful opportunity for local children to explore the joys of reading and creativity. Registration in advance is appreciated for planning purposes, though walk-ins will be welcomed whenever possible. Saturday, May 10th

  • MARTINSBURG-Town of Martinsburg One Room Schoolhouse is having an Open House on Saturday, May 10th from 10 am - 1pm. At 6503 Ramos Rd in Lowville. 
  • LOWVILLE-Lowville American Legion will host a chicken and jerked pork bbq, Saturday May 10th, to be ready at 1pm, in conjunction with a celebration of life for Sgt. at Arms John Lee. Chicken and pork $8, meals (w/Mac salad, baked beans and rolls) for $12.
  • LYONS FALLS-The Lyons Falls Library, 3918 High Street, is celebrating Children’s Book Week Tuesday May 6 – Saturday, May 10, and we’d love for you to celebrate with us! Take home free kids’ coloring books and coloring pages all week!
  • LOWVILLE-Weekend activities for youth ages 13-21 at Maple Ridge Center on Saturdays from 12-4pm. Sports, art, games, workshops.  A parent either needs to go to the first session or go online to sign some paperwork so their teen can participate.  Get more information at 315-816-6448 and yolc.org. 
  • FORESTPORT-St. Patrick’s Thrift Shop in Forestport will be open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon beginning Saturday, April 5 and will be open Saturdays through the fall. Donations are accepted and will go towards the food pantry.

  • LEWIS COUNTY-Lewis County Office for the Aging offers a home delivered meal program where meals are delivered Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with a frozen meal available for Tuesdays and Fridays providing 5 meals total throughout the week.  This program is for people 60+ who are more home bound and maybe unable to make healthy balanced meals for themselves. They also have Community dining sites where people 60+ that are more independent can gather and have lunch together Monday through Thursdays all of which serve around 11:30am-11:45am  Croghan- Steepleview courts.  Harrisville - Harris Courts. Lyons Falls - McManus Hotel  Copenhagen- Copenhagen United Church.  Lowville - Maple Ridge Center. These Programs are funded by Federal, State, and local sources. There is a suggested Contribution of 3.50 per meal. Cash, checks, and SNAP are accepted.
  • LOWVILLE-Medical Equipment loan program by the Lowville Lions.   The Lions Club is able to provide gently used medical equipment to members of the community.  Hospital beds, canes, walkers, bathroom supports, Hoyer lift, and more.  All of the equipment can be loaned at no cost.  Donations are also accepted to replenish their supply.  Contact This email address is being protected from spambots.   • LEWIS County-Friendly Calling & Visiting Program for older adults.  Do you know someone who could use a friendly call or visit throughout the week?  The Lewis County Office for the Aging has Volunteers for that.  Please give their office a call at 315-376-5313 with the name of someone who could use somebody for a visit or a check-in,  and they will be set up.  They are looking for volunteers who are willing to go into the homes of our older adults for companionship, having a cup of coffee together, helping out around the house, running errands or even shopping with them or for them.   •  LEWIS COUNTY-Spirit Animal Sanctuary is having a Can and Bottle Drive.,  Drop off cans and bottles at 5223 Greig Rd in Greig.  Please put Spirit Animal Sanctuary on the bags when you drop them off.  To arrange pickup, please call 315-269-5407 or message the Spirit Animal Sanctuary page at facebook.com/spiritanimalsanctuaryny.  The sanctuary has a wishlist of items and also an online store for merchandise at https://stores.inksoft.com/spirit_animal_sanctuary/shop 
  • BOONVILLE-To raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network, there is a can and bottle drive from now until May 9th in Boonville. Anyone that would like to donate can drop their clean recyclables at 261 Utica Boulevard in Boonville.  There will also be a basket raffle.  One of the raffles is two tickets to the Rodeo at lewis county fair along with a restaurant gift certificate.   They are also having a scratch off lottery ticket raffle.  Drawings will take place in May. Please stop into 261 Utica Blvd and see an associate for details
  • LOWVILLE-The Lewis County Hospital Auxiliary LCGH Auxiliary Annual Plant Sale.  Pre-orders are due by May 14th and pick-up is Monday, May 19, from 1:00 p.m. –  5:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 20 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Lowville Fairgrounds in the LeRoy  Nichols building.   The Auxiliary is selling:  ∙Red, White, or pink Geraniums ($4.00 each)  ∙Red, white or purple Petunias 6-pack ($4.00/6-pack)  ∙Herbs - Sage, Dill, Parsley, Basil, or Oregano (3 ½ inch pots at $4.00/plant)  To order- please call Vickie at (315) 221-0206 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots.   • LOWVILLE-Lewis County Office for the Aging offers screening for memory concerns.  For more information contact the office for the aging at 315-376-5313.  If needed, individuals will be connected to health care professionals for a full evaluation and appropriate treatment.
  • BOONVILLE-Black River Environmental Improvement Association Potato Hill Farm has bikes and helmets available for use.  They are free to the public on a first come, first serve basis.  Helmets are required to be worn while biking on BREIA trails.  Bikes must stay on the Potato Hill Campus which has over 5 miles of trails.  There is a stroller inside the sign-in kiosk by the parking lot and is also available for use on the Potato Hill campus.  Bikes will be available until winter.

  • OLD FORGE-Register by May 15th Rabies Clinic at the old Forge Library. Herkimer County Public Health presents reduced fees rabies clinic hosted by the Old Forge Library. All cats, dogs & ferrets 3 months or older must be vaccinated even if they stay indoors. Every dog & cat need two rabies vaccinations 1 year apart - then one every 3 years. Bring the pet’s rabies vaccination history to receive a 3-year certificate. Ferrets must be vaccinated every year. Dogs should be on a leash.   • CONSTABLEVILLE-May 16, 2025 Bird Walk at the Hall 6:30 PM Linda Gibbs from the Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust will lead us on a bird walk throughout the trails and grounds of Constable Hall. This free event is great for people of all ages. We will start in the Servants Quarters and she will teach us many facts and secrets to “birding” in our area. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, camera and/or a phone.
  • TURIN-The Turin Library is having a free concert on May 16th at 6:30. Hungrytown, an award winning, world traveling Pop-Folk group from Vermont will be performing at the Turin Library or weather permitting, the Turin Park. If the park, bring a lawn chair!
