A New Army Secretary Being Sought

Published on October 26, 2015

“What I did try to do, what I hope that despite my many failings I did do to some degree, is focus my every effort to ensure that this nation stands by them as they’ve sacrificed for us”, those were the some of the last words for John McHugh as Army Secretary for the United States.

A former State Senator and North Country native, McHugh took his position after President Obama was inaugurated into office in 2009. He is remembered by Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley as being a hard fighter for Fort Drum and the soldiers stationed there. According to an article in the Johnson Newspapers Group, McHugh isn’t sure as to what he plans to do after stepping down from Army Secretary. President Obama nominated Eric Fanning to take the place of McHugh, but the Senate must confirm the nomination.
