The national average price for a gallon of U.S. fuel has remained very steady amidst the summer driving season. In fact, the national average rang-in as of this report Tuesday morning at $3.50.
“The arrival of summer used to signal the start of a robust driving season, but that has not been the case recently,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson.
“We know that a record number of travelers were forecast to hit the highways for the July 4th holiday, but since then, they appear to be staying off the road, and the recent scorching heat is possibly to blame. Maybe things will pick up soon.”
Last week’s average gas price was $3.51. A month ago, it was slightly cheaper at $3.44. A year-ago now, the national average was just shy of $3.60.
In New York, drivers statewide are paying a $3.61 average as of this report, which is nearly identical to last-week and just about the same as last-month.
A year-ago now, drivers were paying an average of 3.69 in New York.
