WEBB- A lean-to in the Western Adirondacks caught fire and burnt to the ground earlier this month, authorities say.
In the latest Forest Ranger Highlights, the DEC says the incident was called in on August 2 when a caretaker on Alger Island Campground, Fourth Lake, Town of Webb, witnessed a lean-to on fire.
Forest Ranger McCartney, Lieutenant Hoag and members from Old Forge Fire Department all responded.
It took emergency responders about a half-hour to get the blaze under control, but the structure ultimately was a loss and its remains were torn down.
When all was said and done, Forest Rangers and fire investigators determined the blaze sparked from a nearby, unattended camp fire.
DEC reminds everyone that no fire should ever be left unattended. When finished with a camp or recreational fire, DEC says it should be drowned with water and there should be no evidence of any remaining hot spots.
