Assemblyman Robert Smullen and family mourn loss of young son, AJ

Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R, C – Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) and his family have announced a tragic development regarding their young son, who was involved in an accident that resulted in traumatic brain injury last month.

Early Wednesday morning, the Assemblyman announced that AJ has passed away. “AJ’s fight is over, please pray for his soul in Heaven,” the Smullen family wrote on social media.

“Megan and I are heartbroken, thank you to everyone who prayed for him and supported our whole family during this tragedy, we appreciate it.”

It’s reported that AJ had been hospitalized and in critical condition at Albany Medical Center.

AJ endured an emergency surgery following the accident, which happened while AJ was playing with some of his friends.

Smullen represents constituents in New York’s 118th Assembly District, including portions of Herkimer and Oneida Counties. He was initially elected to the legislature in 2018.
