Boonville Mayor: Summit Street bridge project may not be until 2024

BOONVILLE- The project to reconstruct Summit Street bridge is aimed for summer of 2023, but may not actually be executed until 2024.

This development is according to Village Mayor, Judith Dellerba. In April, there was an incident where a village street sweeper broke through the top layer of blacktop.

The bridge has since been closed to regular traffic.

Although the project was quickly maneuvered to the top in priority in the wake of that incident, Mayor Dellerba says there are still many details that need to be sorted and drawn out before the official construction phase can commence.

County and state officials have advised the village that construction is aimed for summer of 2023, but may not actually occur until 2024.

Despite attempts in looking at temporary solutions that would re-open the bridge to traffic, the Mayor says Summit Street bridge has deteriorated significantly since the sink hole was first discovered and officials have no other option but to keep it closed until it can be replaced.

*Correction: The village has secured a Bridge NY grant for just under a million that will be put towards the project. The county is administering the contracts and construction of the grant.

Village officials would like to thank residents for their patience and continued cooperation.
