Here’s some relieving news from the Carthage area and it’s coming from a major employer in the North Country.
Carthage Specialty Paperboard is in the process of organizing plans to bring upgrades to the facility along with boosting the overall quality of the product and create more efficiency. According to a recent article from WWNY-TV, the manufacturing company is planning to invest more than $2 million dollars for these upgrades. Empire State Development will award a $400,000 grant for the company to purchase new equipment and machinery. As a result, 10 new jobs are expected to be created and 70 original employee positions will be retained. The CEO of Carthage Specialty Paperboard, Pat Purdy, told reporters from WWNY that it will take approximately one year to purchase the equipment, install it and get it fully operational. The company manufactures packaging products, protective seals for the pharmacy industry and picture frame mats.
