Charges Reinstated Against Brenda Roth

Published on July 06, 2016

The heaviest charges against Brenda Roth, a Lewis County woman accused of failing to take action to save a teenagers life after a reported overdose in her home, have been reinstated.

According to a recent article from WWNY, Roth will once again face charges criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter in the 2nd degree, engendering the welfare of a child and tampering with physical evidence. It was reported that in December of 2014, Roth was arrested and charged after a 15 year old Derek Holton of Carthage passed away on a drug overdose at her home in Deer River. Roth is also accused of providing Holton and several other girls with over the counter/prescription drugs. Last summer, Judge Daniel King dismissed the heaviest charges. On the other hand, after a State Appellate Court reversed that decision, the charges have been brought back to the table. Originally, he ruled that there was only enough evidence to uphold the charge of endangering the welfare of a child. Lewis County District Attorney Leanne Moser told reporters from WWNY that she is pleased with this decision.
