Child trapped under hay bale perishes in Lewis County agriculture related accident

CROGHAN- A child has perished in the wake of an agriculture related accident in Lewis County.

It happened Sunday afternoon shortly after 1:30 p.m. on the Second Road, town of Croghan. State Police initially responded to reports of an unconscious child.

When patrols arrived, they found Silas J. Moser, 5, of Carthage, NY trapped underneath a hay bale inside of a barn. Although life-saving efforts were performed by members of Beaver Falls Ambulance, Silas was pronounced deceased after transport to Lewis County Hospital.

As of press time, a preliminary investigation via the New York State Police suggests the hay bale fell on-top of Moser and trapped him.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death.
