LEWIS COUNTY- A community day was held Sunday for residents of Copenhagen with the intent for residents to learn more about the situation with the fire department.
As of now, the village voted in favor to disband their fire department, but the move is up for a public vote if there are enough community members who petition.
According to the latest updates from WWNY-TV, fire department officials were pleased with the turnout, all while hearing from folks who would like to see the fire department stay. “We need this fire department‚ we need it here, we need all these people, we need to keep this going no matter what’s going on, no matter what,” Michelle Dicob told reporters.
Fire Chief T.J. Williams says if the department remains, there will need to be a few changes made because of some surrounding towns yanking their contracts. The controversy regards issues with their financial book keeping.
