ROME- Criminal charges are expected after a woman suffered injuries from being briefly dragged by a train on Monday.
Emergency personnel received reports of a train v. pedestrian incident shortly before 4:00 p.m., between the Rome train station on Martin Street and the Route 49 overpass from East Dominick Street.
According to initial investigation via the Sheriff's Office, an adult woman, who is not yet identified by authorities, was walking the train tracks when a passing Amtrak passenger train hooked onto the backpack that the female was wearing.
As a result, the female was dragged for a short distance until her backpack ripped free.
At this time, the woman was taken to Wynn Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing and criminal charges will be filed at a later time.
As a reminder to the public, the Sheriff's Office says it is a criminal offense to be on Rail Road property and/or the right of way.
Oneida County Sheriff's Road Patrol was assisted on scene by AmCare Ambulance, Rome Fire Department, Rome Police, New York State Police, and members of CSX.
