DANC: Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days set for 2025

The annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days have been set for 2025 in the North Country.

The initiative is organized thanks to a partnership between the Development Authority of the North Country and other area agencies, with aims of providing opportunities for folks to safely dispose of certain hazardous materials.

For folks in Lewis County, they will be able to get rid of their household hazardous waste on September 13 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Fairgrounds in Lowville, NY.

See the full schedule of collection dates below: 

  1. May 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Gouverneur at the St. Lawrence County Fairgrounds, 85 E. Barney St., Gouverneur, NY.
  2. June 7 from 8 a.m. to noon in Watertown, NY at the Jefferson County Highway Garage, Outer West Main Street.
  3. September 13 from 8 a.m. to noon in Lowville, NY at the Lewis County Fairgrounds, 5485 Bostwick St.
  4. September 27 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Massena, NY at the village DPW garage, 85 Robinson Rd.
  5. October 11 from 8 a.m. to noon in Watertown, NY at the Jefferson County Highway Garage on Outer West Main Street.

Items such as leftover solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, oil-based paints, latex paints, and aerosol cans that still have product in them will be accepted, as well as fluorescent light tubes.

Empty aerosol cans, motor oil, asbestos, tires, construction debris and explosives will not be accepted. Electronic waste (televisions, computers) will not be accepted, it can be recycled at most county transfer stations.
