Deputies arrest, charge local man in wake of attempted burglaries in Lowville

LOWVILLE- A man from Southern Lewis County is faced with felony and misdemeanor accusations in the wake of a pair of attempted burglaries in Lowville, NY, authorities say.

Justin E. Branagan, 35, of Port Leyden, NY was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, February 19. He is officially charged with felony counts of burglary in the second-degree and criminal mischief in the third-degree, along with one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief in the fourth-degree.

It was shortly before 4:30 p.m. that day when deputies received complaints of a burglary in progress on Trinity Avenue.

It’s reported that Branagan forced his way into a home; was confronted by the homeowner and fled. Meanwhile, a neighbor followed Branagan and helped guide patrols to his location.

Investigation revealed Branagan allegedly tried breaking into another address, but was unsuccessful.

Following processing, Branagan was arraigned and jailed, without bail.

Members of the New York State Police assisted.
