Dispute in Ava results in felony, misdemeanor charges against Mohawk Valley man

AVA- A man from the Mohawk Valley is facing felony and misdemeanor accusations in the wake of a domestic incident that occurred late last month in the town of Ava, authorities say.

Robert J. Burke, 33, of Rome, NY was arrested Wednesday by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say he is officially charged with felony counts of criminal contempt in the first-degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the third-degree; along with misdemeanor counts of unlawful imprisonment, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing and a violation of harassment in the second-degree.

In addition, Burke was also charged with four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

During the reported incident, police say Burke became physical with a female victim. Details further explaining the scenario were not provided from deputies.

Burke was brought to the Oneida County Jail, where he awaited an arraignment via CAP Court.
