Driver to receive citation for failing to keep right in wake of head-on collision in Forestport

ONEIDA COUNTY- The Sheriff’s Office has released an update pertaining to a head-on collision that occurred over the weekend in the town of Forestport.

It happened shortly before 7:00 p.m. Saturday on State Route 28 just south of the Pit Four Road.

The Sheriff’s Office headed the investigation, with assistance from the New York State Police, Forestport Fire Department, North Star Ambulance, Shufelt’s Towing, Nimey’s Auto and the New York State DOT.

Emergency officials said that Lucy Alpert, 77, of Sauquoit, NY was heading south in a blue 2015 Subaru and failed to keep right. As a result, Alpert drifted into the Northbound lane and collided head on with an oncoming 2025 Subaru, driven by Debra McCoy, 74, of Eagle Bay, NY.

Both parties sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Alpert was transported to Upstate Hospital by NorthStar Ambulance for complaints of hip pain. Meanwhile, McCoy was transported by an additional NorthStar Ambulance unit to Upstate Hospital for complaints of neck pain.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

Alpert will be issued a citation at a later date for failure to keep right, returnable to Forestport Town Court.
