
LOWVILLE- Authorities have recovered the body of a local North Country resident from a small pond in Lewis County.
On Thursday morning, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office announced that Stephen M. Kanagy, 20, of Lowville, NY has officially been pronounced deceased.
Investigation as of this report suggests that Kanagy was swimming in a small pond Wednesday afternoon along the West Road, town of Lowville.
The Sheriff’s Office was called in because it had been almost two-hours since Kanagy was last accounted for.
Responding agencies found his clothing next to the pond, but no sign of him around.
Members from Lewis County Dive Team responded. Officials confirmed that Kanagy’s body was recovered from the pond.
At press time, police did not mention any sign of foul play and the investigation is accidental in nature.
Assisting agencies on-scene included the Fire Coordinators Office, Search & Rescue, Emergency Management, Lowville, Brantingham and Martinsburg Fire Departments and Glenfield Cold Water Rescue.
