Emergency responders say no suspicious cause in Sunday night garage fire in Port Leyden

PORT LEYDEN- Local emergency authorities have released an update regarding Sunday night’s fire in the village. It happened around 8:30 p.m. at 3373 Pearl Street, according to the office of Lewis County Emergency Management. Port Leyden Fire Department was the primary responder to a garage fire at the address, where an official cause was not listed, but not deemed suspicious by emergency officials. The property is owned by Pete Kraeger, Emergency Management said. Firefighters arrived and witnessed a fully involved garage fire. The structure itself and all contents were destroyed and there was no insurance, fire officials reported. Mutual aid was received thanks to Constableville, Lyons Falls and Turin Fire Departments. No injuries were reported. Members from Port Leyden Ambulance and the New York State Police assisted.
