LEWIS COUNTY- A family home in Southern Lewis County was completely destroyed in an early morning blaze Tuesday, emergency officials say.
It was shortly before 2:00 a.m. when 9-1-1 dispatchers received calls about a chimney fire at 5111 State Route 26, Turin, NY. The home was reportedly owned by Clark Miller, according to the office of Lewis County Emergency Management.
All family members evacuated safely from the home and are currently receiving assistance via the Red Cross.
Turin was the primary responder, with mutual aid provided thanks to Constableville; Lyons Falls, Martinsburg and 3-G Fire Departments.
Despite their best efforts, firefighters say the flames spread too quickly to save the home. For safety reasons, the remains were taken down by a track-hoe.
The blaze remains under investigation as of this report.
Constableville and Turin Ambulance crews provided assistance, along with the Sheriff’s Office, State Police, Lewis County Highway Department, Turin Highway Department, NYS DOT and National Grid.
At press time, authorities said the official cause was unknown.
