Fight at North Country area school results in assault arrest

JEFFERSON COUNTY- A fight at a North Country area school last Friday has resulted in an assault arrest being made.

It happened sometime just before 8:45 a.m. at Carthage Middle and High School, according to the New York State Police.

Troopers were called to the campus initially for reports of an assault and investigation determined a verbal altercation boiled over into one teen striking another.

The student who was struck was taken to Lowville Hospital for a non-life threatening injury. The injury was not specified.

The following day, Troopers arrested the 14-year-old male teenager, who is accused of striking the other student, for assault in the third-degree.

At press time, authorities said the matter is aimed to be settled in family court.
