TOWN OF HARRISBURG-A home, located at 7244 Sears Pond Road in the Town of Harrisburg was destroyed by fire on Christmas Day. According to a press release issued by the Lowville Fire Department, the owners of the home, Christopher and Alexis Easter noticed smoke and fire coming from a wall close to the woodstove. They exited the structure and were able to get their two dogs out of the house as well. Lowville Fire Department responded and found a working structure fire upon arrival. Mutual aid was received from Martinsburg, Rodman, and New Bremen Fire Departments. Fire fighters faced extreme weather conditions while fighting this fire and were on the scene for 4 ½ hours fighting the blaze. While fighting the fire, firefighters located a cat in the house and returned it safely to the homeowners. The home and it's contents were deemed to be a total loss. The fire was believed to have started in the wall near the woodstove, but the cause is ultimately undermined as fire crews were unable to access the area because of structural instability. Full response mutual aid was received by the Martinsburg and Rodman Fire Departments, while tankers and manpower were received by the New Bremen Fire Department. Assisting at the scene were Lewis County Search and Rescue, New York State Police, Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lewis County Cause and Origin Team, Lewis County Highway Department, National Grid, and the Lowville Fire Auxiliary. The home was insured.
