Fire teams battle flames at Lyons Falls old mill site hydro plant

LYONS FALLS- A roaring blaze was reported about an hour before noontime Friday in Lyons Falls.

Dispatchers fielded calls of a structure fire at the hydro plant - at the old mill site - near Center Street.

Initial reports claimed that the site was completely engulfed in a raging blaze.

Fire officials have confirmed with us that the flames have been tamed and crews were managing hot spots. It's not clear yet as to what caused this fire to ignite.

Members from Lyons Falls and Port Leyden Fire Departments were on scene, along with the Fire Coordinators Office and Lewis County Search & Rescue. 

Village officials were asking residents and visitors to avoid that area for the time being.
